  1. The 2024 dates for the London Comic Mart have been announced:

    Sunday 4th February

    Sunday 7th April

    Sunday 12th May

    Sunday 23rd June

    Sunday 11th August

    Sunday 22nd September

    Sunday 1st December

As usual, admission to these events at the Royal National Hotel is free from noon - "Early Bird Entry" from eleven o'clock costs £5, if you want to snap up some swift bargains... though not every table may be fully open for business then. You may find it sensible to check the http://londoncomicmart.co.uk website for any last-minute updates, or further details. The Royal National Hotel is within easy walking distance of Russell Square underground station, and not all that far from Euston and King's Cross main line stations, come to that. The official closing time is 4:00pm, or when the dealers run out of stuff to sell.  We'll have our Funko Pop friends alongside us, and of course it's a great opportunity to pick up some hard-to-find vintage dvds, blu-rays, and books and magazines at bargain prices too...

The August mart wasn't on the original flyers, but it's good to know we have an event between the June and September ones!  The date for December has been changed, from the 3rd to the 10th.

  4. The London Comic Marts are back:

    Sunday 23rd May

    Sunday 22nd August

    Sunday 3rd October

    Sunday 12th December

To quote the Facebook announcement, "Following the government announcement on the reduction of Covid restrictions from Monday 17th May, Showmasters are very pleased to announce the return of its live shows.

This will start with the London Comic Mart which will be taking place at the Royal National Hotel in London on Sunday 23rd May 2021. The show will bring together some of the UK’s leading Comic exhibitors and whether you are looking for the latest releases or that rare vintage item, this is the place to find them.

Jason Joiner, Managing Director of Showmasters Ltd said “ It is great that we are now able to return to running live events and cant wait to see our attendees again. Whilst it is good to return to live shows we also want to reassure our audience that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure our show will meet the revised Covid guidelines but will still allow everybody to enjoy the Comic Mart they know and Love. Our Comic Cons and other events will be taking place across the UK as advertised later in the year."

As usual, Early Entry from 11:00 is £5, and from noon admission is free.
  5. 23rd May is starting to seem a little too soon, but hey, there's still a month to go. Perhaps a different layout at the hotel, with slightly fewer tables allowing wider aisles so that we are able to keep a distance from other shoppers, would be an option? It's possible that there would be a limit on the number of people who could be inside at the same time, like supermarkets, which might be awkward, but sensible.

  6. Yes, today's official forum post, also on Facebook, confirms this weekend's event is still scheduled to take place - just don't go along if you have a cough, a high temperature, muscle pains, or are old enough for the government to be advising self-isolation. Travelling by London Underground shouldn't be a problem, as the carriages are likely to be far less crowded than usual, and if you plan to drive in, the chances are that there will be more parking spaces empty than usual.

Time to stock up on some good vintage (or new) reading, to keep us going for a while!

The next London Comic Mart will be held on Sunday 22nd March 2020.  There are no plans to cancel this event at this time and we are nearly fully booked so it will once again be a great event.

We are going to provide a place that you can clean your hands at the venue and we ask anyone that is feeling unwell does not attend and we all look out for the health of each other. The government option at this time is that events of this size of 500 or less hold little risk, it’s no different than going to a shopping center so this event will go ahead as planned, unless the rules change, and as long as the government feels its safe.

Thank you for reading this and stay safe, take care and we will see you there.

  8. Yes, we'll be back at the Royal National Hotel on December 1st - it will be interesting to see what changes have been made to the place.  I intend to go along to a paperbacks 'n' pulps event there this coming Sunday (nothing to do with Showmasters), so will report further if there are any delays or problems.

  9. The dates for the London Comic Mart in 2020 have now been announced:

    21st June    (was cancelled)

    16th August    (now cancelled)

    4th October

    6th December

22nd March and 17th May were also cancelled, due to the pandemic.

As usual, admission to these events at the Royal National Hotel is free from noon - "Early Bird Entry" from eleven o'clock costs £5, if you want to snap up some swift bargains... though not every table may be fully open for business then. 10. … And I've just edited the original post here.  To quote today's Facebook post:

The next Comic Mart will be taking place at the Royal National Hotel on December 1st.

Unfortunately the October 6th Comic Mart at Olympia London will no longer be taking place. We apologise for any inconvenience - however, after further consultation with our comic dealers, and feedback following the announcement, we feel this is the best course of action to take.

We look forward to seeing you all back at the Royal National Hotel in December!

  11. In case you are following this thread, I should mention that the October 6th Comic Mart can't take place at the Royal National Hotel, as they are having ongoing refurbishment/repair work done there.  Instead, while the date stays the same, we've been relocated to The Pillar Hall over at Olympia, just a couple of minutes from the Underground station.  The hotel should be back to normal in time for the December event!

  12. It's a joint event now - still with all our favourite comics dealers, but with added tables full of Funko Pops, for all the upcoming dates.  Judging by the most recent mart, there are some rare Funko Pops, and some good multibuy deals to look for too... but the comics side hasn't been cut back.  Hopefully people who come for the Funko Pops will be tempted to buy some comics, books, dvds etc while they are in the Galleon Suite.

  13. The dates for all of 2019 have now been announced:

    Sunday 17th February

    Sunday 7th April

    Sunday 12th May

    Sunday 23rd June

    Sunday 18th August

    Sunday 6th October - cancelled

    Sunday 1st December

As usual, admission to these events at the Royal National Hotel is free from noon - "Early Bird Entry" from eleven o'clock costs £5, if you want to snap up some swift bargains... though not every table is fully open for business then. 14. Showmasters have released the schedule for 2018 now:

    4th February

    6th May

    1st July

    2nd September

    7th October

    4th November

    2nd December

So, a busier year than 2017.  As usual, admission to these events at the Royal National Hotel is free from noon - "Early Bird Entry" from eleven o'clock costs £5, if you want to snap up some swift bargains... though not every table is fully open for business then. You may want to check the http://londoncomicmart.co.uk website for any last-minute updates, or further details. 15. The list of marts above has been updated - things may get revised again, but the 5th March date has been cancelled, and the April mart is now three weeks later than originally planned, which does at least cut down the gap between that mart and the July one. The 3rd December mart date has been removed, too.

  16. Mike Conroy has now announced the 2017 dates for our marts at the Royal National Hotel; the good news is that we are back to the first Sunday in the month, but, as Mike says, "Please note that we are currently only planning seven marts for next year."

    April 23rd

    July 2nd

    September 3rd

    October 1st

    November 5th

As usual, admission to these events at the Royal National Hotel is FREE from noon - "Early Bird Entry" from eleven o'clock costs £5, if you want to snap up some swift bargains... though not every table is open for business then. 17. The 2016 dates have now been announced:

    January 24th

    February 21st

    April 17th - changed from the 10th!

    May 15th

    June 19th

    July 17th

    September 18th

    October 16th

    November 20th

As usual, admission to these events at the Royal National Hotel is FREE from noon - "Early Bird Entry" from eleven o'clock costs £5, if you want to snap up some swift bargains... though not every table is open for business then. For 2016 we are avoiding the first Sunday of the month, Mike Conroy tells me, as that does tend to lead to clashes with other Showmasters events that are planned for the year.

You may want to check the londoncomicmart.co.uk website for further details, or in case there have to be any last-minute changes. The April date was initially announced as the 12th...the change from the 10th to the 17th is due to "a series of incidents" Mike Conroy says. "We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you. Obviously we do not like making such changes, but in this case circumstances were beyond our control."

  18. Mike Conroy has announced our 2015 dates:

    March 1

    May 3 (includes Comic Empire)

    June 7

    July 5

    August 2

    September 6 (includes Comic Empire)

    October 4

    November 1

    December 6 (includes Comic Empire)

So, after a slow start, we go monthly from May, and always on the first Sunday of the month - very handy. As usual, admission to these Sunday events is free, with the doors opening for everyone at the Royal National Hotel at noon - or "Early Bird Entry" for £5 will allow you in an hour earlier, though don't expect every table to be fully ready for business then.

You may want to check the londoncomicmart.co.uk website in case any last-minute changes have to be made.

  19. I noticed a couple of recent announcements on Facebook:

We are pleased to announce that writer Robin Furth will be signing copies of the first issue of "Stephen King’s The Dark Tower: The Drawing of the Three – The Prisoner" next Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the Mart!

    and

We are also pleased to announce that Artist Lee Garbett will be signing copies of "Marvel’s Original Sin: Thor & Loki – The Tenth Realm collection" at our future Mart on December 7, 2014!

So, come along, and don't forget to buy plenty of stuff from our hard-working dealers... ;)

  20. It seems perfectly reasonable to me to pay a few tens of pounds to get an autograph from one of your favourite stars in a relaxed and friendly convention environment - and it seems fair for such stars to be paid for their time. It must be slightly annoying to sign items until your fingers get cramped outside a movie premiere, knowing that most of the stuff is going to be appearing on ebay a few hours later!
